Modern Eğlencenin Öncü Mekânı: Marmara Gazinosu’nun Dünü ve Bugünü

Abstract

Geçmişten günümüze, her siyasi otorite kendisini mekânsal oluşumlarla var etmiş, ideolojisini bu alanlar vasıtası ile yansıtmıştır. Cumhuriyetin ilanı ile yeni ve batılı yaşayış, özellikle eğlence mekânları ile halkın her katmanına sunulmuştur. Marmara Gazinosu mekânsal kurgusunun yanında, yerleşkesinde bulunduğu Gazi Çiftliği ile Cumhuriyet ideolojisine paralel, asrî eğlence fikrinin sergilendiği, ilk aile gazinosu olmuştur. Şehrin modern yaşayış öncüsü sayılabilecek gazino, faaliyet gösterdiği dönem içerisinde eğlence programlarının yanı sıra, edebiyat etkinliklerine de ev sahipliği yapmış, şehirlinin batılı eğlence alışkanlıklarını deneyimleyebileceği/öğrenebileceği bir okul görevi üstlenmiştir. Su ile ilişkisi özenle kurgulanmış ve kurak Ankara’nın çehresinde önemli bir değişim yaratmış mekân, çiftlikle beraber, inşa edildiği dönemden itibaren çeşitli düzenlemelere maruz kalmış, 1950’lerde somut bir şekilde başlayan dönüşüm süreci günümüze kadar devam etmiştir. Marmara Gazinosu’nun hem mekânsal olarak hem de içerisinde kurgulanmış modern eğlence pratiklerinin değişiminin ve dönüşümünün analizi, temelleri 1920’lerde atılmış olan bir ideolojinin, günümüzde ne durumda olduğunun anlaşılması; geçmişin, güncele dair öğretilerinin irdelenmesi açısından önem taşımaktadır. Bu anlamda çalışma, Marmara Gazinosu’nu, dünü ve bugünü özelinde, mekânsal özelliklerinin yanı sıra içinde bulunduğu yapılı çevre ile biçimsel, ait olduğu dönemin gazino eğlence anlayışına dair ise bağlamsal olarak incelenmeyi amaçlamıştır. Bu doğrultuda konvansiyonel arşiv çalışması ve veri analizleri ile modern bir eğlence anlayışının Marmara Gazinosu üzerinden okuması yapılmıştır. Günümüzde yok olmuş gazino eğlence anlayışı ve mekânlarının, günümüzün ötesinde mekânsal ve ideolojik yansımalarını taşıyan Marmara Gazinosu’nun öğretileri analiz edilmiştir.

From the past to the present, every political authority has existed itself through spatial formations and reflected its ideology through these spaces. With the proclamation of the Republic, a new and Western lifestyle was presented to every layer of the public, especially through entertainment venues. In addition to its spatial construction, Marmara Casino was the first family casino where the idea of modern entertainment was exhibited in parallel with the ideology of the Republic and Gazi Farm where it was located. The casino, which can be considered the pioneer of modern life of the city, hosted literary events as well as entertainment programs during the period it was in operation and served as a school where the city dwellers could experience/learn Western entertainment habits. The place, whose relationship with water was carefully constructed and created a significant change in the face of arid Ankara, has been subjected to various arrangements since its construction together with the farm, and the transformation process that started concretely in the 1950s has continued until today. Analyzing the change and transformation of the Marmara Casino, both spatially and in terms of the modern entertainment practices constructed within it, is important in terms of understanding the current state of an ideology whose foundations were laid in the 1920s and examining the teachings of the past on the present. In this sense, the study aims to analyze the Marmara Casino in terms of its past and present, in addition to its spatial characteristics, formally with the built environment in which it is located, and contextually regarding the understanding of casino entertainment of the period to which it belongs. In this direction, a modern understanding of entertainment has been read through conventional archive work and data analyses through the Marmara Casino. The teachings of the Marmara Casino, which carries the spatial and ideological reflections of the extinct casino entertainment understanding and spaces beyond today, have been analyzed.
