Swarm Intelligence in Two Decades: Bibliometric Analysis and Research Visualizations

Abstract

Bibliometric analysis and research visualizations of publications on the keyword swarm intelligence between 2001 and 2024 help us understand the developments and trends in this field. The study examines the number of articles published on swarm intelligence during this period, subject headings, publication access feature, author names, affiliated institutes, publication type, countries of publication, and network visualization. In the study, OpenAlex, which indexes more than 250 million academic studies in social sciences globally, was used as a database. VOSviewer software tool was used for map creation and network visualization. According to the results of the analysis, it is seen how the research on swarm intelligence has evolved over time. This bibliometric analysis and research visualizations on the keyword swarm intelligence can be a resource for future studies to understand the current state and future trends of research in this field. Such a study can also help researchers to better understand the work done in this field and discover opportunities for advancement.
