The concept of e-HRM, its evolution and effects on organizational outcomes
(CRC Press, 2016) Findikli, Mine Afacan; Rofcanin, Yasin
Transition of today's work setting has placed human resource management (HRM) practices in the central position. Coupled with changes in technology and information system developments, the nature of HRM practices has also adapted to such developments. Building on these recent trends, the aim of this chapter is to elaborate the field of electronic HRM (e-HRM) in research. We systematically examine the definition of e-HRM and conceptualize its relationship with organizational outcomes. Increasing prevalence of e-HRM carries important theoretical and practical implications for managers as well as researchers. We end our chapter with future research avenues. © 2016 by Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. All rights reserved.

Winners of the Catastrophe: How Streaming Services Proved their Sovereignty during the Pandemic of 21st Century?
(Peter Lang AG, 2021) Yıldırım, Nisa; Ulusoy, Nilay
In the first decade of the 21st century, the way of consumption of films and television shows has changed with the launch of streaming services, firstly Amazon Prime Video, followed by Hulu and Netflix soon after. The introduction of tablet computers in 2010 had also contributed to the popularity of streaming services that allow individual use of their customizable archives. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world at the beginning of 2020, public spaces were abandoned globally, impacting the cinema industry. The release dates of already made films had to be delayed, and new projects were canceled despite causing enormous losses for production companies. On the other hand, as the people had to amuse themselves in their houses for months, the value of the corporate audiovisual content that brings the outside to inside unsurprisingly increased. Audiences who did not intend to pay for streaming services until this year had to change their minds. It was announced that Netflix Company, the industry leader, had doubled its net profit even in the first quarter of the year due to a lockdown. Even rearrangements had to be made to reduce the bandwidth due to heavy traffic created by its subscribers. Before the unpredictable pandemic, streaming services were assumed to be threats to the cinema and television industry. And in the post-pandemic era, it can be claimed that these services, which took advantage of their medium, will continue to be advantageous members of the entertainment industry. In this article, we will discuss the pandemic effect on the rise of global streaming platforms. We will also take Turkey as a specific case to make visible the sovereignty of these platforms and the competitive analysis in local and international streaming services in pandemic COVID-19. © Peter Lang GmbH. The Role of Disaster Museums for Disaster Awareness
(Peter Lang Publishing Group, 2021) Yücel, Gül
Disaster museums are founded in the aftermath of a great disaster having occurred in its native region. As opposed to disaster prevention centres, disaster museums also function as a tool for collective memory besides its practical function as a museum. Museums are among the salient tools in life-long learning as well. In the study, disaster museums founded within the context of earthquake, tsunami and flood disasters have been examined. Within the context of natural disasters, the most recent disaster museum samples from all over the world have been evaluated in detail. In the analyzed museums features of located environment, exhibition main themes and exhibition methods have been investigated. A disaster museum constitutes a major component of disaster tourism for the region hit by disaster by virtue of its museum function that bears the traces of history and is also highly valued as a memoir. It can be said that exhibition design and contents within the scope of museum undertake a major function in terms of disaster awareness. © Peter Lang GmbH Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften Berlin 2021 All rights reserved.

Understanding Olivetti Factory as a Sustainable Industrial Heritage
(Peter Lang Publishing Group, 2021) Cırıtcı, İlke
Although they were designed to survive for centuries during the period they were built, some buildings have become unusable with the loss of importance of business lines and have been left to their fate in cities for many years. The continuous change of production with today’s technological speed, and the loss of use of many industrial structures, which were used especially in the 19th century, brought the reuse of these structures and usage suggestions for different functions have been introduced. Industry heritage takes an important part in the sustainable development of the city. Olivetti’s sustainable project is mostly based on the link between an ethical concept and a development-oriented idea (Castano, Gallo, 2013). The spreading of industrial structures in the Olivetti campuses to the region, ensuring production and sales, attracted attention from service optimization to the quality of life and the environment. Understanding the philosophy of Olivetti Settlements, which took its place in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2018, will contribute to the concept of Industrial Heritage and the sustainable development of cities. © Peter Lang GmbH Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften Berlin 2021 All rights reserved.

The logistics costs in e-commerce platforms and its effect on the processes after COVID-19 outbreak
(Peter Lang AG, 2021) Çanakçioğlu, Mustafa
As a result of the removal of the borders in trade with the internet brought about by technological developments, global competition has emerged in every sector. One of the reasons for this competition is the global digital market created by the developing internet. E- commerce, which is generally used to express the online sale of physical products, refers to the purchase and sale of goods or services using the internet and the transfer of money and data to carry out these transactions. As a result of the purchase of the products on the internet by any customer from anywhere in the world, delivering this product to the buyer is a logistics activity. In other words, all activities carried out from the manufacturer or seller of the product to the moment of delivery to the customer are part of the concept of logistics costing. There are several costs related to services such as storage, packaging, preparation for shipment, transportation, and assembly. In our chapter, examined the multifaceted effects of the COVID- 19 global epidemics on international trade, global supply chains, and logistics activities were examined within this scope. © Peter Lang GmbH Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften Berlin 2021. Experimental investigation of the stabilization performance trends of two geogrids constructed on low bearing capacity subgrade
(Korean Geosynthetics Society, 2018) Gökova, Süleyman; Saltan, Mehmet; Terzi, Serdal; Tutumluer, Erol; Uz, Volkan Emre; Karaşahin, Mustafa
Experiments were carried out on real size samples in the laboratory to investigate the geogrid stabilization performance in highway pavement applications. A moving wheel load was applied on representative pavement samples constructed on low bearing capacity subgrade with and without geogrids. Two types of geogrids were used to construct the pavement sample configurations. Resistance to plastic (permanent) deformation was recorded as a performance indicator to compare structural performance trends of the pavement samples. For this objective, surface deformations were measured after certain wheel load repetitions. Rut depths were calculated from surface profiles measured with a laser profiler. Layer thicknesses were varied to observe differences in the deformation trends. When appropriate conditions were reached in the trial configurations, all layer thicknesses were kept constant during the tests. The two geogrid types constructed with the same granular materials and varying layer thicknesses were used in different layer interfaces to search for the most optimum solution. According to the study findings, the use of geogrid over soft subgrade with low CBR values has been shown to extend the life of the pavement by reducing the rut depth. Copyright © 11th Inter. Tracking failure and recurrence plot analysis for three different levels in the discharge on epoxy resin
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2017) Ispirli, Mehmet Murat; Yilmaz, Aysel Ersoy
Electric energy requirement is increasing day by day, so excessive demand for the transmission of high voltage and current has brought problems in high voltage insulation. The polymers used for electrical insulation in the external environment is exposed to environmental conditions. In this paper, ASTM D5288 standards is used to simulate this environmental stresses. In this standard tracking failure of pure epoxy resin samples are investigated. During the expriment, 3., 20. and 50. drop the instant evaporation mechanism obtained through discharge currents, that they were analyzed by the recurrence plot method. © 2016 The Chamber of Turkish Electrical Engineers.

Investigation of lifelines analysis methods used in working at heights
(Nova Science Publishers, Inc., 2023) Kizilgöz, Hatice Rumeysa; Yapan, Türker
Working at height is one of the most dangerous activities in terms of occupational health and safety. In particular, most of the fatal occupational accidents occur in the form of falling from a height. Therefore, fall arrest systems or fall arrest systems are very important when working at height. In working at heights, fall prevention systems, that is, collective protection measures, are preferred. Guardrails, space restriction systems and some types of safety nets are among the methods used to prevent falling from height. However, these collective protection measures, which are mentioned in working at heights, are often insufficient. Lifelines, which are used in working at height and which have an important place in ensuring safety, appear as an important protective system both in areas where work is constantly at height and when it is necessary to go to height in cases such as maintenance breakdowns. The standards of lifelines are defined in the literature, although the minimum requirements to be met are mentioned, it is seen that the purposes of the test methods are not fully explained in the literature. It is considered that knowing how the equipment to be used in working at height is tested, what the test stages are and carrying out enlightening studies on this subject will both contribute to the knowledge in terms of Occupational Health and Safety and prevent occupational accidents that may arise from the wrong equipment selection. In this part of the book, the minimum limitations of lifelines in terms of occupational health and safety test methods will be explained and supported with visuals. © 2023 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
