dc.description.abstractIn this study, the sustainable conservation conditions of the historical small settlements with coast are discussed. Within this scope, Istanbul Avcılar district historical Ambarlı village with a shore on the Sea of Marmara has been assessed within the scope of disaster and sustainable conservation. Historical Ambarlı village which was a fishing village until the beginning of the 20th century carries the little settlement properties that could be transmitted to the future with its unique buildings, roads and usage way that could be seen even today. The old village of Ambarlı is a settlement that includes small two-story masonry houses with gardens. Streets are in accordance with the slope of the land and partly located as perpendicular to the sea. The green area distribution in the settlement has developed depending on the garden position in the city block. In this study; in the assessment conducted within the scope of disaster risks, the buildings, green areas and settlement roads forming the unique texture have been examined in detail. The literature review in the study has been conducted within the frame of municipality archive information regarding the zone and on-site examination. The buildings in the settlement have been assessed in terms of structure, material, usage status and conservation of their unique structures. The revelation of the properties belonging to the place in every dimension will provide vast data in the foresights for the future. The historical settlement areas under the disaster risk are sustainable as long as they are protected in a holistic way with their unique texture and usage together with those living in them. © 2018 The International Masonry Society (IMS).en_US
