The Relationship Between Career Engagement And Life Satisfaction: A Research On University Students

Abstract

The aim of our study is to examine the career engagement levels and life satisfaction levels of university students according to various variables, and also to determine the relationship between career engagement and life satisfaction. The universe of the research consists of the students studying at the sports education colleges and faculties of foundation universities in Istanbul. The sample of the study was composed of 223 students, 150 males and 73 females, studying at Istanbul Gelisim University School of Physical Education and Sports. As data collection tools in the study, the "Career Engagement Scale (CES)" developed by Hirschi, Freund and Herrmann (2014) and adapted into Turkish by Korkmaz, Kırdök, Alkal and Akça (2020) and Diener, Emmons, Larsen, and Griffin (1985) "Life Satisfaction Scale (LSS)" developed by Köker (1991) and adapted to Turkish by Köker (1991) was used. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 20 package program. It has been determined that research data for scales show normal distribution. After the data showed normal distribution, the analyzes were carried out with the parametric tests T-test, ANOVA and Pearson Correlation test. In the research findings; career engagement of individuals according to their age and the industry variables they want to work in the future; Statistically significant differences were found between life satisfaction according to their wealth levels. As a result of the research, it was determined that career engagement levels and life satisfaction levels differ according to the variables of the individuals; It has been concluded that individuals whose career engagement increases will also increase their life satisfaction. © 2021, Ataturk Universitesi.
