The Actor Management Workshop has started under the mentorship of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Uğur BALOĞLU, Department Head of Television Journalism and Programming at Istanbul Gelişim University, Faculty of Applied Sciences. The workshop, which takes place on Mondays at the J Block Digital Communication Workshop, will provide training to participants on topics such as the basics of actor management, effective communication methods on set, and the importance of the relationship between the director and the actor for a total of six weeks. We've all heard people say, "No matter what I do, I just can't learn English." Addressing the challenges of language learning, Translator and Research Assistant Serhat Kahyaoğlu explains, “With patience, perseverance, determination, and motivation, anyone can learn a foreign language, regardless of age.” While Kahyaoğlu, an academic member of the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies at IGU, partially agrees with the common belief that "there is no age limit for learning a language," he emphasizes, “Early education is generally more effective and efficient than starting in adulthood. Researchers in foreign language education particularly highlight the pre-adolescent period. Studies have shown that our minds are more receptive to language learning at a younger age. Beyond this natural predisposition, early learning habits can significantly aid in mastering multiple languages later in life. A seminar titled “Youth’s Impact on the Environment: Local Solutions, Climate Change” was organized in our university on 11.12.2024 at 10.30 in the A Section E210 classroom with the partnership of the Applied Sciences Faculty Environment Commission and Avcılar Municipality. Dr. Akgün İlhan participated in the seminar with his presentations titled “Water Management in Youth”, Zeynep Gül Karamanlı with his presentations titled “Climate Change and Energy Policies” and Özcan Şahingözlü with his presentations titled “Recycling and Local Administrations”. On December 21, 2024, Istanbul Gelisim University hosted an important event. The organization organized under the name of “Uzbekistan Youth Forum” was attended by Istanbul Gelisim University Trustee Chairman Abdulkadir Gayretli, representatives of the Uzbekistan Youth Ministry, the Uzbekistan Ambassador in Ankara and many students. The event was held to strengthen youth cooperation between the two countries and to increase experience sharing in the field of education. Various educational seminars and workshops were offered to students within the scope of the forum. Participants acquired knowledge and skills from instructors specialized in different fields. In the forum, where Uzbek culture was also introduced, Uzbek pilaf was prepared and served to the participants for 450 people under the leadership of C Block Kitchen Technician Chef Yiğit Can Yeşil. Prof. Uğur Baloğlu Completed his TÜBİTAK 2219-Supported Research! Faculty of Applied Sciences, Department of Television Journalism and Programming faculty member Assoc. Prof. Uğur Baloğlu won the TÜBİTAK 2219 International Postdoctoral Research Scholarship with his research on Turkish TV series in the USA and successfully completed his study. Our university's faculty members continue to leave their mark in the scientific world with their original and qualified academic studies. These valuable projects both contribute to global science and increase the international reputation of our university. Assoc. Prof. Baloğlu's project titled "Transnational Media and Countercultural Flow: A Comparative Study on Turkish TV Series in the US in the Context of Immigrant Integration and Cultural Encounters" aims to develop an innovative and original academic approach in the field of communication and cultural studies by presenting important scientific findings in its field. Assoc. Prof. Uğur Baloğlu conducted studies at Purdue University, School of Communication and Creative Arts in the United States between January 2023 and June 2024 within the scope of the research scholarship he won. The research was conducted using the audience ethnography method in the states of New York, Indiana and California. This study examined the impact of Turkish TV series on US audiences and the processes of immigrant integration. Assoc. Prof. Baloğlu's research makes significant contributions to the scientific vision of our university. The study examines the rising popularity of Turkish TV series in the US and its impact on intercultural communication, revealing valuable findings from both academic and social perspectives. We congratulate Assoc. Istanbul Gelisim University students came together with important names in the sector at the GastroAntep Culture Road Festival held on September 15, 2024 in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality. Within the scope of this event organized by Sözen Organization every year. the University Competition competition, which has an important place in the field of gastronomy, was organized. Lect. Kerem Günay, a student of UBF Gastronomy and Culinary Arts department, was among the students prepared for the festival competition by Lect. İbrahim Levent Demirçakmak. The students, who received great appreciation from the jury members. once again demonstrated the quality of gastronomy education at IGU and the talents of its students. As a result of the University Competition, IGU students, who competed with great dedication and discipline, won the second prize.
