UN's Sustainability Agenda and Smart City Initiatives into Selected Cities of North Cyprus

Abstract

This chapter focuses on smart and resilient cities, which is a new paradigm using technology and innovation as a tool of sustainable urban development. This paradigm has been implemented on transforming the municipal city of Catalkoy-Esentepe into an inclusive, safe, resilient, smart and sustainable city. Such a target is not easy to achieve, nonetheless efforts shall be made on the new projects, which are projected by the city planners. In this chapter, city level development plans, action plans, objectives, strategies and policy measures of sustainable urban cities have been examined to reach such a goal. The plans, programs and strategies are subject to be assessed by the key performance indicators to measure the performance of the urban city. Ultimately, readers of this chapter will find information specifically on urban development, housing, green and open spaces, waste management, blue spaces and water management, urban policy and governance.
