Adam Smith’in İktisadi Değer Açıklamaları ve Başlattığı Düşünsel Sorgulamaların Analizi

Abstract

Amaç: Çalışmada iktisadi değer teorilerinin temeli olarak Adam Smith’in iktisadi değere ilişkin yaptığı açıklamaların mercek altına tutulup incelenmesi ve bu açıklamaların iktisadi düşünce içinde başlattığı düşünsel sorgulamaların değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Ricardocu, Marksist ve neoklasik iktisadi değer teorilerinin iyi anlaşılabilmesi için bunların açığa çıkmasına zemin hazırlayan Adam Smith açıklamalarında öne sürülen tezlerin ve bu tezlerin başlattığı düşünsel sorgulamaların bilinmesi gerekmektedir. Yöntem: Çalışmada nitel analiz tekniği kullanılmış, birincil ve ikincil düzeyde önem arz eden kaynaklara başvurulmuştur. Smith’in iktisadi değer açıklamalarını yaptığı ana eseri Milletlerin Zenginliği birincil düzeyde, Smith açıklamalarını değer teorisinin gelişim seyri içinde ve iktisadi düşünce tarihinin şekillenişi bağlamında inceleme ve değerlendirme konusu yapan eserler de ikincil düzeyde önem arz eden kaynaklar olarak incelenmiştir. Bulgular: Smith’in iktisadi değer açıklamasını, ihtiva edilen emek, toplama değer ve kumanda edilen emek olmak üzere üç ayrı tez üzerinden yaptığı, bu tezlerin değişen toplumsal koşullara ve Smith iktisadında değer açıklamasına başvurulan bağlama göre şekillendiği, değer teorisinin gelişimi bakımından da düşünsel sorgulama zemininin bu tezlerin üzerinde yükseldiği tespit edilmiştir. Emeğin yalnız başına değerin ölçüsü olup olamayacağı, sermayenin emek cinsinden ifadesinin mümkün olup olmadığı, iktisadi değerin yaratımında sermaye ve arazinin emek kadar başat rolü olup olmadığı sorgulamaları, ardından gelen dönemde Smith tezlerinin değer teorisine gelişme yolunu açtığı tartışmaların omurgasını oluşturmuştur. Sonuç: Çalışma sonucunda Adam Smith’in iktisadi değerin açıklanmasına yönelik öne sürdüğü tezlerin düşünce tarihindeki öneminin, bu tezlerin birbirleri ile tutarlı olmasından değil; Smith sonrası geliştirilen değer teorilerinin tamamen Smith’in yarattığı düşünsel sorgulama zemininin üzerinde yükselecek olmasından ileri geldiği anlaşılmıştır. Smith’in tezleri, sonrasında iktisadi değer üzerine geliştirilecek fikirlerin filizlenmesini ve zamanla sınıflara ayrılmasını sağlamıştır. Emek-değerin farklı ele alışları ve fayda-değer kulvarlarında ayrışarak yol alacak iktisadi değer teorilerinin temeli, Smith tezlerine dayanmaktadır.

Aim: The aim of this study is to examine Adam Smith’s explanations on economic value as the basis of economic value theories and to evaluate the intellectual questionings these explanations started within the economic thought. In order to better understand the Ricardian, Marxist and neoclassical economic theories of value, it is necessary to know that the value theses put forward in Adam Smith’s explanations and the ways of thinking that theses initiated. Method: Qualitative analysis technique was used in the study, and recoursed to primary and secondary kinds of sources. While Smith’s main work, The Wealth of Nations in which he explained economic value theses, is examined as the primary source of importance, the others that evaluate Smith’s explanations within the development of theory of value and the formation of the history of economic thought are also examined as the secondary sources of importance. Results: It has been determined that Smith explained economic value through three theses, namely labour embodied, aggregate value, labour commanded; which are the theses were shaped according to changing social conditions and the context in which Smith’s explanation of value applied; and that the intellectual basis for the development of value theory was built upon these theses. The questionings of whether labour alone can be the measure of value, whether capital can be expressed in terms of labour, and whether capital and land play as dominant role as labour in the creation of economic value, formed the backbone of the debates that followed, paved the way for the development of economic value theory, based on Smith’s theses. Conclusion: As a result of the study, it was understood that the importance of the theses put forward by Adam Smith regarding the explanation of economic value in the history of thought did not come from the consistency of these theses with each other, but from the fact that the theories of economic value developed after Smith were entirely based on the intellectual ground of questionings created by Smith. Smith’s theses enabled ideas to be developed on economic value to sprout and to be divided into classes over time. The basis of economic value theories, which will proceed by separating into varying labour-value interpretations and utility-value classes, is based on Smith’s theses.
