Öğe Efficiency of Repetitive Topical Corticosteroid Embedded Nasopore Tamponing on Wound Healing After Endoscopic Sinus Surgery(İstanbul Gelişim Üniversitesi Yayınları / Istanbul Gelisim University Press, 2018-04-20) Taşkın, Ümit; Yücebaş, Kadir; Öğreden, Şahin; Erdil, Mehmet; Oktay, Mehmet Faruk; Tiryakioğlu, Necip Ozan; Barut, Abdullah YükselAmaç: Endoskopik sinus cerrahisi (ESC) sonrası sinus boşluğunda uzun sureli topikal steroid uygulamasının etkilerini arttırmayı hedefledik. Sonuç: ESC sonrası emilebilir nazal paket aracılığıyla steroid kullanımının oldukça güvenli olduğuna ve sineşi ve granülasyon gibi erken postoperatif ESC komplikasyonlarının önlenmesinde etkili olduğunu düşünmekteyiz.Öğe Examination of Age Related Volume Changes in Brain by Magnetic Resonance Imaging Method(İstanbul Gelişim Üniversitesi Yayınları / Istanbul Gelisim University Press, 2018-08-31) Hayretdağ Örs, Ceyda; Tiryakioğlu, Necip Ozan; Varol, TuncayAim: Normal brain aging is accompanied by cognitive decline. Determination of age-related changes in the brain helps in understanding the healthy aging process. Our aim was to examine the volume changes occurring due to advanced age by investigating the age-related changes in brain during normal aging process. Method: This study was carried out on the magnetic resonance (MR) images of 29 healthy subjects consisting of 13 males and 16 females between the ages of 20 to 80. Volumes of right and left cerebral hemispheres, right and left frontal lobes, and right and left temporal lobes were measured by Cavalieri sections method on MR images. Findings: A significant age-related decline in the volumes of all investigated regions (p<0.05) was observed. The decline in volume is higher in males in comparison to females. Additionally, it has been observed that in male subjects, the volume of right hemisphere, right frontal lobe and right temporal lobe showed more signs of atrophy than left side; whereas in females, the volume of right frontal lobe showed a more prominent decline than its left frontal lobe. Conclusion: An age-related decline in brain volume has been detected for both sexes; however male subjects suffered a more prominent decline than females. We believe that the reason behind this more significant decline might be the effect of gonodal hormones.Öğe Extracellular matrix protein 1 gene rs3737240 single nucleotide polymorphism is associated with ulcerative colitis in Turkish patients(AVES, 2017-06-30) Adalı, Gupse; Ersoy Tunal, Nagehan; Yorulmaz, Elif; Tiryakioğlu, Necip Ozan; Güray Mungan, Sibel; Ulaşoğlu, Celal; Yılmaz Enç, Feruze; Tuncer, İlyasBackground/Aims: Ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease are chronic inflammatory diseases. Genetic, immunologic, and microbial factors play an important role in their pathogenesis. Extracellular matrix protein 1 (ECM1), a gene related to mucosal barrier function, has been shown to be associated with UC. This study aims to determine the relationship between ECM1 gene rs3737240 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and UC in a group of Turkish patients. Materials and Methods: Ninety-four UC patients and 120 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. ECM1 gene rs3737240 SNP genotyping was performed using the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method. Results: TT genotype was significantly more common in UC patients than in the healthy control group [p=0.034; odds ratio (OR) 2.34; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.04-5.25]. The presence of C allele significantly lowered the UC risk (p=0.034; OR 0.42; 95% CI 0.19-0.95). TT genotype was significantly associated with azathioprine use in UC patients (p=0.037; OR 3.0; 95% CI 1.04-8.65). The C allele significantly reduced the probability of azathioprine use in UC patients (p=0.037; OR 0.33 CI 95% 0.11-0.96). No relation was found between rs3737240 SNP genotype and the phenotypical characteristics of UC patients. Conclusion: The TT genotype of ECM1 gene rs3737240 SNP significantly increased susceptibility for UC and azathioprine use in UC patients in a Turkish population.
