(ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, SARA BURGERHARTSTRAAT 25, PO BOX 211, 1000 AE AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS, 2012-06-21) Şen, Asım; Kabak, Kamil Erkan; Tüysüz, Fatih; Kuzaliç, Dilek
The objective of this paper is to provide some insights for developing a high quality university through democratizing the contemporary university management practices. The high quality university has often the quality academic programs, quality teaching faculty members, and quality students for establishing high educational standards. The faculty of high quality universities engages in high quality research and produce high quality and quantity of new knowledge and publications. The graduates of high quality universities usually obtain high quality professional positions. They also generate the necessary physical and financial resources and endowments for supporting themselves. Those universities that develop these quality characteristics offer a high quality education. Democratization of the university management practices plays a key role for a university to develop a high quality education and become a high quality university. In this study, democratization process includes the ownership, the practice of sharing the authority and responsibility, group decision-making, horizontal network organizational structure and long term employment practices of university management. Those universities utilizing these practices together and acting collectively as a team are able to achieve a high quality education and become a high quality university. Democratization process will also help stakeholders of the university to establish close cooperation and relations with public and private institutions for financing the university. An evaluation model for intelligent farming systems: A fuzzy logic based simulation approach
(Springer Verlag, 2020) Çelikbilek, Yakup; Tüysüz, Fatih
Farming is the biggest business since the beginning of humanity. Farming and farming business among countries triggered most of the historical revolutions directly or indirectly. Besides, all of the modern and technological innovations directly were adapted to the farming systems. In a large part of the world, the solar energy is never enough for farming all kind of vegetables and fruits during the whole year. At the same time, compensating the solar energy by using lighting, heating and other systems 7/24 during the whole year for farming is not economically enough as business. Like all other businesses, the main aim of farming business is also increasing productivity by decreasing expenses. With the introduction of information technologies into every moment of our lives, taking the advantage of intelligent systems has become more important to achieve these goals. Also, information technologies and intelligent farming systems have gained increasing importance with today’s consumption patterns. In this study, we aim to propose an evaluation model for the intelligent farming systems by using fuzzy sets theory and simulation technique. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Fuzzy logic based simulation approach for the evaluation of intelligent farming systems
(Old City Publishing, 2020) Çelikbİlek, Yakup; Tüysüz, Fatih
Farming has been one of the most important issues for humans due to its contribution to the development of civilization. Farming is vital and most of the historical revolutions were triggered directly or indirectly by farming business among countries. Besides, all of the modern and technological innovations were directly adapted to the farming systems. Solar energy cannot be solely enough for farming all kinds of agricultural products during the whole year. Additionally, usage of only light, heat and other artificial equipment during the whole year to instead of sun is not economically feasible. In today’s world, in order to feed the continually increasing world population effectively and efficiently and also to provide sustainable farming, the integration of advanced technologies into farming systems, which can be called intelligent farming, is of high importance for both researchers and the industry. In this study, a fuzzy logic based intelligent farming system is proposed, then, analyzed and evaluated by using fuzzy sets theory and simulation technique. Fuzzy logic is used to control the heating and lighting of the intelligent farming system, and simulation is used for evaluating the system. The results of the application indicate that the proposed approach is quite successful in increasing the efficiency with a 30% to 50% cost reduction. ©2020 Old City Publishing, Inc.

A hybrid multi-criteria decision making approach for strategic retail location investment: Application to Turkish food retailing
(ELSEVIER SCIENCE INC, STE 800, 230 PARK AVE, NEW YORK, NY 10169, 2019) Tüysüz, Nurdan; Tüysüz, Fatih
Retail location selection decision is a critical and complex process which requires the evaluation and aggregation of multiple criteria and also the usage of appropriate data related to them. This study handles the problem at a strategic level and proposes a Monte Carlo simulation based multi-criteria strategic location decision model for food retailing. This model integrates two multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methods which are Hesitant Analytic Hierarchy Process (H-AHP) and Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) methods. Firstly, H-AHP method is used to obtain the weights of criteria to be used in GRA based on the experts' judgements. Secondly, simulation based GRA is used for ranking the alternative locations. Finally, the effectiveness and the applicability of the proposed model is illustrated with an application of strategic location investment decision of food retail stores in Turkey.

An in-depth review of theory of the TOPSIS method: An experimental analysis
(ROUTLEDGE JOURNALS, TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD, 2-4 PARK SQUARE, MILTON PARK, ABINGDON OX14 4RN, OXON, ENGLAND, 2020) Çelikbilek, Yakup; Tüysüz, Fatih
Decision-making is an important part of daily and business life for both individuals and organizations. Although the multi-criteria decision-making methods provide decision makers the necessary tools, they have differences in terms of the assumptions and fundamental theory. Hence, selecting the right decision-making method is at least as important as making the decision. TOPSIS (Technique for Order Performance by Similarity to Ideal Solution) method, which is one of the most widely used multi-criteria decision-making methods, has gained attention of researchers and thus various improved versions of the method have been proposed. This study considers the conventional TOPSIS method and experimentally displays the underlying reasons of the lacks of the conventional TOPSIS method by using a simulation technique. Detailed experimental analysis based on simulation with an application is used to reveal theoretical fundamentals of the TOPSIS method to better understand it and contribute to its improvement.

Multi-criteria Assessment of Sustainability for Energy Systems Under Uncertainty: Grey-Based Approach
(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2021) Çelikbilek, Yakup; Tüysüz, Nurdan; Tüysüz, Fatih
Energy supply and related systems have gained increasing importance in recent years. Energy supply is not only related to the energy sources but also related to production, distribution, storage, sustainability, etc. As the concept of sustainability, it also includes the other important components of energy systems. Because sustainability is valid for everything and one of the most important topics in today’s world. Therefore, sustainability of energy systems should be considered in a holistic manner. Thus, the sustainability of energy systems can be evaluated more accurately and broadly. In this study, a grey-based multi-criteria approach is proposed to assess the sustainability of energy systems under uncertainty. The proposed approach contains two main methods; the grey analytic hierarchy process and the grey MOORA method. In the first part, grey analytic hierarchy process is used to combine the subjective evaluations of the experts and generate the grey decision matrix. Then, in the second part, grey MOORA method is applied to the grey decision matrix for the assessment of sustainability for energy systems under uncertainty. An example is also given for displaying the applicability of the presented approach. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

A novel multi-criteria analysis model for the performance evaluation of bank regions: an application to Turkish agricultural banking
(SPRINGER, ONE NEW YORK PLAZA, SUITE 4600 , NEW YORK, NY 10004, UNITED STATES, 2020) Tüysüz, Fatih; Tüysüz, Nurdan
The banks serve in a highly dynamic and competitive environment and need to systematically evaluate their performance to improve their competitiveness. Performance evaluation is an important and complex process that requires flexible and analytic methods while handling the multidimensionality of the problem. This study presents a hybrid multi-criteria performance evaluation model for banking sector which combines two multi-criteria decision making methods that are simulation-integrated hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets-based analytic hierarchy process method to determine the importance level of each criterion according to the decision makers’ subjective judgements and grey relational analysis method to rank bank regions according to their performance values. The presented model is based on both probability theory and fuzzy sets theory and thus better represents all the dimensions of the uncertainty inherent in decision making process. A real-life application of the proposed performance evaluation model for a private bank operating in agricultural banking sector in Turkey is also given to illustrate the effectiveness and the applicability of the model.
