Childhood Psychological Maltreatment and Subjective Vitality: Longitudinal Mediating Effect of Cognitive Flexibility
(Springer, 2024) Kütük, Hasan; Satıcı, Seydi Ahmet; Ümmet, Durmuş; Okur, Sinan
Childhood psychological maltreatment is an essential concept that can have an impact on an individual's physical and psychological health. The majority of studies on childhood psychological maltreatment used a cross-sectional design. The fact that this concept, which has a long-term effect on an individual's life, has not been investigated in longitudinal research has produced a gap in the literature. Our study aimed to examine the longitudinal relationship between childhood psychological maltreatment, cognitive flexibility, and subjective vitality. The role of cognitive flexibility in the relation between childhood psychological maltreatment and subjective vitality was investigated in a Turkish sample (N = 270). In order to explain the relationship, a cross-lagged panel study in two waves was conducted. The results revealed that cognitive flexibility longitudinally mediates the relationship between childhood psychological maltreatment and subjective vitality. This research indicates that childhood psychological maltreatment reduces cognitive flexibility, which in turn influences subjective vitality.

The development and initial validation of the Earthquake Fear Scale: Its links to personality traits, psychological distress, harmony in life, and mental wellbeing
(Wiley, 2024) Satici, Seydi Ahmet; Okur, Sinan; Deniz, M. Engin; Karaagac, Zahide Gul; Yilmaz, Fatma Betuel; Kutuk, Hasan; Satici, Begum
Unexpected and unpredictable earthquakes may have a negative impact on people's mental health. The earthquake fear experienced by individuals causes psychological problems. This article is made up of three different studies that look at earthquake fear. The seven item Earthquake Fear Scale (EFS) was confirmed in Study I (N = 407) utilising confirmatory factor analysis. In addition, Item Response Analysis was done, and it was found that all of the items showed a good degree of discrimination. The reliability of the EFS has been proven with different reliability coefficients. In Study II (N = 505), both correlation and network analysis were carried out, and earthquake fear was found to be significantly associated with depression, anxiety, stress, and mental wellbeing. Moreover, neuroticism and conscientiousness, two of the big five personality traits, are significantly associated with earthquake fear. In Study III (N = 382), it was revealed that psychological distress and harmony in life play a serial and fully mediating role in the link between earthquake fear and mental wellbeing. The psychological influence of earthquake fear is emphasised in this pioneering and comprehensive study on earthquake fear.

(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2024) Okur, Sinan; Karaağaç, Zahide Gul; Yılmaz, Fatma Betül; Kutuk, Hasan; Satici, Seydi Ahmet
The earthquake fear seriously influences the psychological wellbeing of individuals. It is necessary to explain in more detail the nature of the link between earthquake fear and flourishing. In this context, the purpose of this study is to examine the serial mediator role of meaningful living and psychological adjustment in the relationship between earthquake fear and flourishing. The sample consisted of 401 individuals (81.8% females, Mage = 24.36, SD = 5.30). Participants completed four scales measuring earthquake fear, flourishing, meaningful living, and psychological adjustment. The results of the correlation analysis demonstrated significant relationships between these variables. In addition, structural equation modelling revealed that meaningful living and psychological adjustment have a serial mediating role in the relationship between earthquake fear and flourishing. These findings prove the relationship between earthquake fear and mental health.

The Mediating Role of Mukbang in the Association between Loneliness and Smartphone Addiction in Emerging Adulthood
(İstanbul Gelişim Üniversitesi Yayınları / Istanbul Gelisim University Press, 2025) Kütük, Hasan; Okur, Sinan
Aim: The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating role of Mukbang viewing behavior in the relationship between loneliness and smartphone addiction in individuals in the emerging adulthood period. Recently, an important field of study has emerged due to the effects of loneliness on behaviors in technological environments and the examination of Mukbang videos on the mental health of individuals. In this context, the aim of this study is to examine smartphone addiction by exhibiting Mukbang viewing behavior in those experiencing loneliness. Method: In this study conducted with 401 participants, 280 females (69.8%) and 121 males (30.2%), the average age of the participants is 24.443 years (age range = 18-26, SD = 1.682). Within the scope of the study, data were collected from the participants face-to-face using the UCLA Loneliness Scale, Smartphone Addiction Scale, and Mukbang Addiction Scale. Conditional process analysis was performed using the SPSS PROCESS macro plugin in the analysis of the data. Additionally, the statistical significance of the mediating variable was examined using the bootstrapping method. Results: Correlation results indicated that there was a significant and positive relationship between all variables. Findings from the conditional process analysis suggest that Mukbang serves as a partial mediator in the connection between loneliness and smartphone addiction. Conclusion: The study reveals that Mukbang videos are used as a tool to cope with the feeling of loneliness of individuals and that this situation triggers smartphone addiction. The results demonstrate that intervention programs for conscious media use should be developed for individuals with high feelings of loneliness.
