Öğe Public policy and infrastructural development in Nigeria: A study of Anambra State, 2014-2021(İstanbul Gelişim Üniversitesi Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü, 2024) Nwankwo, Christian NonsoDespite the fact that Anambra State has seen numerous administrations, their policies in a number of sectors have not been well implemented, and there has been a lack of investment in some areas of infrastructure development. This could be detrimental to the state's goal of achieving development and raising the standard of living for its citizens. In light of this, the study "Public Policy and Infrastructural Development in Nigeria: a study of Anambra State between 2014 and 2021" is conducted. David Easton's Systems Theory was used as the study's theoretical analytic framework. The study design employed was a descriptive survey. Both primary and secondary sources of data were gathered for the study; among the tools employed were questionnaires, journals, newspapers, textbooks, and observation. The Taro-Yamane sample was used in the study. The study used Bowley's proportional allocation formula along with Taro-Yamane's sample size and stratified random sampling technique. 399 respondents made up the study's sample size. Accordingly, 330 respondents' responses were employed in the data analysis, which was predicated on the validity and retrieval of the returned survey. The instrument's (the questionnaire's) reliability was tested in the study using the Pilot approach. The gathered information was displayed as a frequency distribution table and a four-point Likert rating scale. Mean (X) method and Chi-square (X²) inferential statistics were used for quantitative analysis. The study's conclusions showed that while public policy has aided in the development of infrastructure, not all sectors have benefited from it. Among the factors preventing the effective implementation of public policy on infrastructure development in Anambra state are institutional weakness, political instability, bribery and corruption, lack of professionals, and poor cross-sectoral policy integration. The study concluded that while public policies have been effectively implemented, the improvement of infrastructure has only been observed in certain sectors of the state, such as the road and transportation, health, and education sectors; during the study period, little to no progress has been made in the areas of environmental protection, sanitation, general security, and the safety of people and property in Anambra state. The study made several recommendations, including that the state establishes proper institutions and agencies to carry out and implement development policies and programs, hire professionals and qualified policymakers, and ensure project and program continuity. Good governance also contributes to political and economic stability in the state.
