    The role of local government on urban development in Mogadishu Somalia

    The aim of this study is to explore the influence of local government on urban development in Mogadishu, Somalia. The objectives include examining infrastructure planning, city planning, and water planning in the area. The study seeks to assess the impact of local government on urban development and investment in Mogadishu. It comprises five chapters covering the problem statement, literature review, methodology, data presentation, analysis, interpretation, findings, conclusions, and recommendations. The research employed a descriptive design with a target population of 90 respondents and a sample size of 73. The researcher utilized the Slovenes formula to determine the sample size and employed questionnaires as the research instrument. Data analysis involved the use of statistical methods such as graphs and statistics, with frequency analysis conducted using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS V. 25.0) Upon analysis, several recommendations emerged regarding the role of local government in urban development. For instance, it is suggested that the local government should implement programs aimed at improving infrastructure, including waste disposal services, and raise awareness among residents to appreciate and contribute to the creation of new infrastructure systems. Furthermore, there is a need for collaboration with experienced professionals and other countries to enhance existing infrastructure and establish companies in rural communities, ensuring adequate staffing to manage infrastructure centers. Neglected populations, particularly in rural areas, should receive attention, and local authorities should take proactive steps to address their needs. These measures are expected to contribute to an improvement in the living standards of the community.
