Basında ‘Tan Olayı’ - 4 Aralık 1945

Abstract

İkinci Dünya Savaşı sonrası ortaya çıkan konjonktür, Türkiye’nin iç ve dış politikasını etkilemiştir. Savaş sonrası oluşan yeni dünya düzeninde kendine yer edinmek isteyen Türkiye için 1945 yılı, çok partili hayata geçişin sinyallerinin verildiği yıldır. Türkiye-Sovyetler Birliği ilişkileri, tarafsız/yansız dış politikanın terk edilerek kapitalist sisteme eklemlenmenin bir gerekçesi olarak gösterilirken, iç politikada da antikomünizmin artmasının ve sol muhalefetin bastırılmasının gerekçesi olmuştur. Dönemin basını içinde Tan gazetesinin savaş yılları boyunca Nazizm’e karşı çıkarak antifaşist bir yayın politikası izlediği görülmektedir. Türkiye’de demokratikleşme sürecine ivedilikle geçilmesini isteyen Tan ve Serteller; bu talepleriyle ırkçıların, gericilerin ve onların basındaki temsilcilerinin hedefi haline gelmişlerdir. 4 Aralık 1945 günü, dönemin siyasi iktidarınca kışkırtılan üniversite gençliği eliyle gerçekleştirilen saldırıda, gazetenin matbaası bir daha kullanılmayacak şekilde tahrip edilmiştir. Bu makalenin amacı, Tan gazetesinin yayın hayatına son veren bu saldırının, dönemin basınında nasıl ele alındığını göstermektir. Tan’la birlikte dönemin ulusal yayın yapan gazeteleri, Cumhuriyet, Ulus, Akşam, Vatan, Tanin, Tasvir, Yeni Sabah, Son Posta, Son Telgraf ve Vakit’tir. Makalede bu 11 gazetenin 1945 yılı sayılarında tekil tarama yöntemiyle nitel içerik analizi yapılmıştır. Tan’ın yayın hayatına son veren saldırı, basında ‘gençliğin haklı bir eylemi’ olarak yer almıştır. Gazeteler bunu, basın özgürlüğüne ve demokrasiye yönelik bir saldırı, muhalif bir sesin, çok sesliliğin susturulması olarak görmediği gibi; gençliğin ‘vakarlı ve heyecanlı eylemi’nden ‘gurur ve memnuniyet’ duymuştur.

The post World War II conjencture has affected Turkish internal and foreign policies. 1945 was the year that showed signals of transition to the multi-party system for Turkey, a country that wanted to secure a place in the post-war world order. Turkey-Soviet Union relations was shown as the reason behind the abandoning of candid/neutral policies and being articulated in the capitalist system. In internal policies the tension was also asserted as the reason of the rise of anti-communism and the raid of left wing oppositon. It is seen that during the period of war, among the press, Tan newspaper opposed Nazism and followed an anti-fascist policy. Tan newspaper and Sertel’s who stood by the democratisation of Turkey, became the target of racists, reactionist and their representatives in the press. On December 4th 1945, the newspaper’s printing house was completely destroyed on an assault by a group of university students provoked by the government of the time. The main goal of this study is to show how the press of the time reacted to this assault which put an end to the Tan newspapers’ publication. Besides Tan, Cumhuriyet, Ulus, Akşam, Vatan, Tanin, Tasvir, Yeni Sabah, Son Posta, Son Telegraf and Vakit were the nationallly published and distrubuted newspapers of the time. The 1945 issues of these 11 newspapers have been individually surveyed with qualitative content analysis method. The assault which ended the publication of Tan, was described as “the righteous act of the youth” by the newspapers of the time. The newspapers didn’t see the assault as an attack to the press and democracy, as muzzling of an adverse voice and of the poliphony, but they also openly expressed their appreciation and their pride in the dignified and emotional act of the youth.
