Revolution in Fusion Energy 2025 is a groundbreaking year in the search for clean energy, and Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) is on its way to becoming a pioneer of this revolution. This MIT-originated start-up promises a carbon-free, unlimited, and safe future by commercializing fusion energy. Fusion mimics the sun’s energy production mechanism by combining hydrogen atoms and generates almost no radioactive waste. To turn this dream into reality, CFS is developing compact tokamaks—systems that control extremely hot plasma (ionized gas) to initiate and sustain the fusion reaction—using hightemperature superconducting (HTS) magnets. This technology appears revolutionary, as it reduces the cost and size of traditional fusion devices.
