Çevresel Duyarlılığın Çevreci Turizm Gelişimine Etkisi: Çanakkale Örneği

Abstract

Amaç: Bu araştırmada yerel halkın çevresel duyarlılık düzeylerinin çevreye duyarlı turizm gelişim sürecine destek verme eğilimlerine etkisini incelenmektedir. Bu kapsamda Çanakkale’de yaşayan yerel halkın çevre bilinci, çevresel tehdit algısı ve çevresel tutumlarının, çevreye duyarlı turizm gelişimine desteklerine olan etkisi tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Yöntem: Çalışmada çevre bilinci, çevresel tehdit algısı ve çevresel tutum değişkenleri açıklayıcı değişkenler olarak ele alınmıştır. Açıklayıcı değişkenlerin çevreye dayalı turizm gelişimine desteğe etkisi yapısal eşitlik modeli ile incelenmiştir. Veriler anket tekniği ile online olarak toplanmış, 427 geçerli anket formu analiz edilmiştir. Öncelikle keşfedici faktör analizi yapılmış, ardından yapısal eşitlik modeli ile değişkenler arası etkiler test edilmiştir. Bulgular: Analiz sonucunda çevre bilincinin doğrudan çevreye duyarlı turizm gelişimine destek ve çevresel tutum üzerinde etkisi bulunmadığı görülmüştür. Ancak iklim değişikliğine yönelik çevresel tehdit algısı üzerinden çevresel tutumu ve bu tutum aracılığıyla çevreye duyarlı turizm gelişimine desteği dolaylı olarak etkilediği belirlenmiştir. Bu bağlamda çevresel tutum, çevreye duyarlı turizm gelişimine desteği direk etkilediği elde edilmiştir. Atıklara dayalı çevresel tehdit ise çevresel tutumu etkilerken, bu tutum üzerinden çevreye duyarlı turizm gelişimine destek değişkenini etkilemediği tespit edilmiştir. Çevresel tehdit değişkenleri genel olarak çevreye duyarlı turizm gelişimine desteği doğrudan etkilemezken, yalnızca iklim değişikliğine yönelik tehdit algısının çevresel tutum üzerinden dolaylı bir etkisi olduğu saptanmıştır. Sonuç: Yerel halkın çevre bilinci ve çevreye yönelik olumlu tutumları arttıkça, çevre dostu turizm uygulamalarına olan desteğin de yükseldiği görülmektedir. Yerel halkta çevresel farkındalık ve bilinç düzeyinin artması, sürdürülebilir turizm yaklaşımının benimsenmesi açısından büyük önem taşımaktadır.

Aim: This study investigates the impact of local residents’ environmental awareness on their propensity to endorse environmentally sustainable tourism development. Within this scope, an effort has been made to ascertain the influence of local residents residing in Çanakkale on their environmental awareness, perception of environmental threats, and environmental attitudes regarding their support for environmentally conscious tourism development. Method: The study considered environmental awareness, perception of threats, and attitudes as explanatory variables. The impact of these explanatory variables on support for environmentally sustainable tourism development was examined using structural equation modeling (SEM) approach. Data collection was conducted through an online survey, resulting in the analysis of 427 valid questionnaires. Initially, an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted, followed by the implementation of structural equation modeling to investigate the relationships among the variables. Results: As a result of the analysis, it has been observed that environmental awareness has no direct support for the environmentally sustainable tourism development and no effect on environmental attitudes. In this context, it was observed that environmental attitude has a direct impact on support for environmentally sustainable tourism development. While waste-based environmental threats affect environmental attitude, it has been determined that this attitude does not influence the variable supporting the development of environmentally sustainable tourism development. Overall, variables representing environmental threats do not exert a direct influence on support for environmentally sustainable tourism development; only the perception of threats associated with climate change has an indirect impact via environmental attitudes. Conclusion: As local residents’ environmental awareness and positive attitudes towards the environment increase, their support for environmentally friendly tourism practices correspondingly rises. The improvement of individuals’ environmental consciousness and awareness is of paramount importance for the adoption of a sustainable tourism approach.
