Abstract
SUPERCOMPUTER
It is almost certain that we will need supercomputers that are faster and more detailed than ordinary computers to
answer some of the most vital questions, such as whether the earth will warm by one degree Celsius or six degrees
Celsius in the coming decades. To answer these and other questions, a supercomputer, known in the press as the
Hewlett Packard Enterprise Frontier Supercomputer, is being developed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory,
supported by the US Department of Energy. This supercomputer is designed as the successor to Oak Ridge
National Laboratory's Summit supercomputer and is still under development, having been commissioned in 2022 as
the world's first computer with "exascale" computing capabilities. Exascale computing refers to the capacity to
compute at a rate exceeding one quintillion operations per second. In other words, it is faster than the sum of the
seven most powerful supercomputers close to it.
