Designing an effective MIMO antenna for 5G
Abstract
Since today's smartphones need high frequencies and a broad bandwidth, the development of 5G communication technology is being heralded as a revolutionary step in the field of wireless communication. But since high frequencies are inversely related to wavelengths, as they spread, they will experience dispersion because of this relationship. This problem may be solved by combining the capabilities of 5G technology with those of systems that use the Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) protocol. The purpose of this thesis is to develop and conduct research on a hexagonal MIMO system with the intention of enabling smartphones to operate across a broad spectrum of 5G sub-GHz frequencies (mid-bands). In this thesis, two antennas are planned to be constructed on the same FR-4 substrate. The substrate has a thickness of 1.6 mm, a permittivity of 4.3, and a loss tangent of 0.02. In addition, each of the suggested antennas makes use of a ground plane that has been altered, and the microstrip line feed 50 is the form of feeding that is used to excite those antennas. Computer Simulation Technology (CST) studio version 2020 is used for the design and simulation of each and every model that is being offered. According to the findings, the frequency range that can be covered by the first model's operating frequency is between 0 and 16 GHz with return losses of S11 that are lower than -10 dB. While the second variant can accommodate frequencies ranging from 0 to 16 GHz with return losses of -10 dB.
